Ángel Stanich
ÁNGEL STANICH MISTAKES US AGAIN WITH 'LITTLE FAITH'
A mischievous dance toy that is released this 5 December as the 3rd preview of their imminent 4th album.
First it was a “radioactive lullaby” ('I bring you love'); then, a flight to the basics ('I have gone further'); now, Ángel Stanich gives us a petite story, a little story with a moral? Fear not... This is not about Alice Munro. 'Poquita faith' is pure Stanich: narrative of dialogue between an angel savior? and the unredeemed protagonist, archetype of a lot of people who vegetate dully through life...
Its surprising and danceable synth pop-New wave immediacy, and his phrases with quinine, hide a more complex entelechy in the form of a television crossover between two series from disparate eras: on the one hand, we have José Ramón, character from the series Little Faith (2023-), played by Raúl Cimas; on the other, actor Michael Landon in the role of an angel sent to earth (Jonathan Smith) on Highway to Heaven (1984-1989).
A spirited parable of discouragement that perhaps points to the battered outlook, generational and social, that dangerously leads to resignation and apathy, in “cave plans”, o en un homeopático gozo en el barro y en el dolor que ni un ángel reconductor podrá salvarlo de su maraña rutinaria. Comfortably Numb, What would Pink Floyd say… Crisis of values? Nice apathy? philosophy of drowsiness? As usual, las reflexiones de nuestro bardo darán también a interpretación variopinta:
“…life becomes magnificently boring, which paradoxically is very entertaining to watch. Practically, The mere fact that this being without worries continues to breathe is a miracle... Long and sad life for Saint José Ramón the Conformist!! Because 'he who has more is not richer, if not the one who needs the least'. Bien mirado, Maybe it's Michael Landon who has something to learn..."
The lyrics of 'Poquita fe' draw almost entirely from what happens in the 1st season of the series to which it already owes its name, but in Stanich's Delorean there is always a trunk for tips from the present and the past: apart from picking up the iconic Michael Landon from the curveball, Hidden tributes to Radio Futura appear, the canyon life of those present Alcalá Norte, Morgan Freeman (Like God), the always lively Hayao Miyazaki, Mariano Rajoy vibes (“better worse, better…"), or the Spanish sneaker brand J'hayber, another symbol of unpretentious life not devoid of style.
‘Poquita fe’ was recorded at Estudio Bien, except for the battery (Your and His). The mix has been made by Juan Torán (Study Well), and the mastering is by Hugo Valverde. Producido por Ángel Stanich y Juan Torán.
Part of the usual band has participated: Luis García Vega (some of the electric guitars, choirs) and Lete Moreno (battery); besides, features the choirs of Hipólito and Eva Menard; el resto de arreglos han sido interpretados por Ángel Stanich y Juan Torán.
